Acas: using personal devices at work

Acas has published some very brief guidance on the use of smartphones and other devices at work. Some organisations allow employees to access company resources and data on their personal devices, by having a “bring your own device” (BYOD) policy. Whilst this may be advantageous for the company, for example, by saving the cost of having to buy the device themselves, there are risks if the policy is not managed properly. Employers may be concerned about threat to their security. Analysts have recommended that well managed BYOD policies should isolate business use from personal use. It is also suggested that employers should consider making provision for remotely deleting sensitive data from devices.
