Historic London – The Trafalgar Way (High Street Kensington)

If you walk along Kensington High Street towards Holland Park you will eventually come to a sign erected by the Council of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, to commemorate the Trafalgar way. This is to mark the 271 mile journey of Lieutenant John Richards Lapenotiere(the Captain of H.M. Schooner PICKLE) from Falmouth to the Admiralty to convey urgent news. He changed horses 21 times, and managed the journey in 37 hours which even by modern standards is very impressive.
